2/3 of Cycling accidents are the fault of the driver

Figures released this week by the City of Westminster, have revealed that in two thirds of accidents involving cyclists and other vehicles within the borough, fault is attributed to the driver of the other vehicle.

Making a Cycling Accident Claim

The data has formed part of the borough’s draft Cycling Plan 2013 – 2016; which is looking at ways to make the area safer for cyclists and other road users.

In addition to revealing that drivers are attributed fault in two thirds of accidents involving cyclists, the latest data has suggested that cyclists are at fault for accidents involving vehicles one in five times; whilst when it comes to accidents involving pedestrians and cyclists, in three out of five cases fault is attributed to the pedestrian.

The figures have also indicated that there is an upward trend in the number of accidents involving cyclists since 2005.
