A Third of Women at Work Face Sexual Harassment, According to Recent Findings

Prospect, one of the UK’s largest trade unions for professionals, reported in their recent survey that a third of women have experienced sexual harassment in their place of work. The study hoped to uncover the amount of times employees had witnessed or were personally affected by this type of unwelcomed behaviour. The data found that women who endured sexual harassment in the workplace were too intimidated to report such misconduct to their colleagues, confirming that these issues are still commonplace in the UK workforce today.

Victims of sexual harassment silenced by NDAs

A recent report by the Women and Equalities Committee of the House of Commons expressed a concern that non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) are being used unethically by some employers to silence victims of sexual harassment. The report shows that even though confidentiality agreements cannot prevent an employee from making a protected disclosure (making a disclosure in the public interest) in accordance with the Public Interest Disclosure Act 1998, this is usually unclear to the individuals in the agreement they sign.
